I'm always impressed to find metalheads anywhere, but amongst CF developers it's especially rare. I love my metal and write reviews from time to time for metalunderground.com (a CF site no less) and fasterlouder.
In fact just last weekend I got to see Megadeth - who I've been waiting to see since I was like, 12 - and it was awesome. Review here.
So... anyone been to any good live shows recently?
There's not much in Raleigh. I just moved down here from Northern Va. so I'm still settling into the scene. We don;t get alot of the major club tours. So it's gonna be a four hour drive back to NoVa, for most of 'em.
Heh, I know how you feel... Perth is on the west coast of Australia, a 5 hour flight away from the bigger cities on the east coast, and up until about 18 months ago none of the bands who came to Australia (which is not a lot to start with) bothered to make the additional trip. There's a bit of a mining and property boom on at the moment though, so that's maybe why the promoters reckon it's worth sending bands out here now (there's money around). At least, that's the only reason I can think of :)
At least you've only got a few hours drive! I flew to Sydney to see Nine Inch Nails in May, and when we got to the venue it had been postponed until September. We came back, but it ended up costing about $3K all up (flights + staying one night each time). It was a good show, but I dunno if I'd pay $3K to see them again!
I wouldn't describe myself as a "metalhead" because I listen to pretty much everything (and I don't mean that in the generic "i like everything but country" answer kind of way), but last week I saw Mewithoutyou, Thrice and Brand New in San Jose and had a blast. A couple weeks before that was GWAR and Cradle of Filth in San Francisco -- GWAR was great fun! A buddy and I are finally getting to see Ozzy live tomorrow night -- I'm looking forward to it! :)
Good recent shows?
Well about a week ago I saw Van Halen on their reunion tour in Boston. Although not exactly a metal band, they put on a great show. Eddie still has the killer chops and Dave sounded great.
The metal bands I'm into are mostly old school -- Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Sabbath... I'm not too hip on the current scene. (Except for maybe System of a Down)
I saw Iron Maiden on their last tour about a year ago. Hoping to catch them on their "Somewhere Back in Time" tour. Hey Kay -- Perth will be their second date on the tour.
Heh, I'm not a huge Maiden fan - although I LOVE Priest and saw Sabbath/Heaven+Hell just a few months ago - so I'm not gonna see Maiden in Perth, BUT I am planning to go to Wacken Open Air in Germany next August, and I hear they're playing there. I have some friends who are very excited about seeing Maiden - especially because they're gonna be pretending it's still the 80's :)
That is true, I am really looking forward to the Reading festival, I have a one day ticket for sunday and I shall be watching Slipknot (yay! been on non-stop on my iPod), Avenged Sevenfold, Tenacious D and Metallica... all in ONE day! ohh.. too much!
John Oliva's Pain w/ Mantecora and Circle 2 Circle is coming to Volume 11 in October. With John and Zack on the same biil we should get some Savatage covers out of it. should be a good show.
Hopefully Raleigh should be getting some more good shows...
